An originator assists the borrower in determining the proper loan program, completing the loan application and gathering the necessary paperwork, including pay stubs, tax returns and bank statements, to begin the loan process. A credit report is obtained and analyzed by the originator. During the mortgage loan process, the mortgage originator communicates with all parties involved in the transactions.
Skills Required:
Position requires a individual mortgage license with 8 hours of continuing education required per year. Loan Officer (MLO's) must have a diverse set of skills; to succeed in the mortgage industry it is important for a loan officer to not merely be competent in these skills, but to excel in them. Loan officer jobs are sales positions; therefore the successful loan officer is one who is very comfortable and proficient with all aspects of the sales process. A loan officer should be adept at attracting and retaining c customers, consistent in following up with potential borrowers asking for the sale, overcoming objections and closing the deal. Building and maintaining referral relationships with various sources.
