The Department of Theatre Arts at Bradley University is seeking a part-time (20 hours per week) Assistant Technical Director. Responsibilities of the Assistant Technical Director include but are not limited to providing assistance to the Technical Director as needed with duties that include working with design/tech faculty in supervising students to build, finish, install and strike theatre scenery; fabricating and finishing theatre scenery and properties as needed; assisting design/tech faculty in supervising students to hang, cable and focus theatre lighting; training and supervising student employees; maintaining scenery shop equipment and tools and attending technical rehearsals as needed with the possibility of some evening hours. This position is part time based on 20 hours per week scheduled as needed between mid-August to mid-May.

Skills Required:

Minimum four years related experience working with construction/fabrication techniques using wood and metal along with construction supervisory experience; knowledge of tool safety and maintenance; ability to safely supervise, work with, and train college students (often unskilled in construction techniques). This is a construction/fabrication position that requires the ability to solve construction-type problems related to the transfer of planned construction specifications to actual construction practices, i.e., read construction plan, determine best method for safe construction and facilitate construction working with student employees. Experience in stage rigging with knowledge of theatrical construction and stage machinery preferred; experience with CADD (Vectorworks or AutoCAD) preferred; experience with theatre lighting equipment also preferred. Must be able to work flexible schedule according to department production deadlines.Selected candidate must have the mental and physical capabilities to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation, i.e., stand, bend, reach, climb, etc; tolerate constant or extreme noise; independently handle 50 pounds; visual ability to operate equipment effectively and safely; hearing ability to hold conversations through earpiece or in person; speaking ability to effectively communicate with other individuals. Work environment is primarily indoors.
