MAYOPHOBIA Definition Mayophobia refers specifically to anxiety or distress triggered by mayonnaise as a food substance. This may include fear of its appearance, texture, smell, taste, or the idea of consuming or being near it. The reaction is disproportionate to any actual threat and may interfere with eating habits or social situations involving food. Etymology The term Mayophobia is derived from mayonnaise, a thick condiment primarily made from oil, egg yolk, and acid, combined with the Greek word phobos (φόβος), meaning "fear". Background Food specific phobias are a subset of consumption and sensory related phobias. Mayophobia is most commonly associated with sensory aversion, particularly toward mayonnaise's creamy texture, pale color, or perceived greasiness. In some cases, the fear may overlap with strong disgust responses rather than classical fear, though both reactions can coexist. Possible causes Hypothetical contributing factors include: * Negative childhood experiences involving mayonnaise
* Sensory sensitivity to texture, smell, or appearance
* Association of mayonnaise with spoilage or contamination
* Anxiety related to egg based or emulsified foods
* Cultural or personal dislike escalating into avoidance Symptoms Possible symptoms may include: * Nausea or gagging when seeing or smelling mayonnaise
* Anxiety when meals contain or may contain mayonnaise
* Avoidance of certain foods or restaurants
* Emotional distress during social eating situations
* Physical discomfort such as sweating or increased heart rate Classification Mayophobia may be classified as a food specific phobia. It may overlap with sitophobia (fear of food), sensory processing sensitivities, or texture based aversions.

Related phobias.. Miriamphobia, going alphabetically, is being afraid of all the gorgeous girls names Miriam. Beware, she may burn you with her hotness. There is no cure for this phobia. Sticking to food phobias, there is HiddenValleyRanchophobia, the irrational belief that a perfectly good meal can be ruined by the addition of ranch dressing. SquirtCheesophobia, a regional phenomenon, is that every meal will eventually be smothered, stuffed, crusted, or injected with nacho cheese from a can. Common among those who prefer to taste their food. Last but not least, Ramenopharyngeal Syndrome is a condition characterized by the persistent fear that a noodle will enter the wrong pipe, resulting in coughing, choking, public embarrassment, or accidental nasal ejection. If you or a loved one suffers from any of these conditions, consult a qualified professional not named Miriam.

I actually don't recall ever eating Ramen noodles. My mom sometimes fixed Chinese beef chop suey, which I like. Other than that, only noodles I've had are spaghetti, linguini, lasagna, ravioli and goulash. My favorite meal which takes a lot of work to prepare is Mexican Beef and Noodle casserole. So I don't get it too often. On mayonnaise, I must have it on big cheeseburgers with lettuce, tomato, pickles, ketchup. No onions or mustard.
I also prefer mayo with cold sub sandwiches like turkey and ham.
My wife, though, has to be careful with mayonnaise. It has caused her reflux issues or upset stomach in the past. Now, when we make Tuna salad, she's not affected by the mayo that we put in with lettuce, green onion, and canned peas.
