I'm sad for my adopted home town of Tiskilwa, about an hour north of here, population 750.

Someone stuck this sign in the ground at the local park. As bad as it is, the comments on Facebook really tells the story of a paranoid uneducated populace.

"what is wrong with not wanting a terrorist group like Islamic types in the area? muslims did not cone here to worship our God or christ tglhey bow 5 times a day for a false God ."

"If muslims come out here they will destroy it! They hate Christians . You are a complete MORON if you think they deserve to be here…."

"its disgusting how ignorant some people are… they are here to invade..sorry it is happening ALL over the world…1 "muslim" who seems nice…that is what they want ! Next thing you know they are running for office, in our schools, building their mosques and then you will be the infidel …people need to get educated"

Welcome to small town America.

You don't need to drive an hour north to find this.

Seriously, there are people who live, work and die in some small towns. They never left for as much an hour. I talked to some of them. Very sad.

There's been a Muslim community in Peoria for I don't know how many years. They have a school/mosque out on Charter Oak Road. I delivered there a couple times for Jason's Deli when they hosted an elaborate Legos Building tournament, and any youth could come in and compete, not just Muslim.

Those in the small towns trying to fear monger about Muslims taking over need to get out of their shell and see that bigger urban areas never got taken over.

This same attitude about Muslims and Islam also erupted during the Obama administration, when Far Right activists swore he would turn the country away from all other religions to just Islamic. While forgetting that Obama attended a Chicago Baptist Church for 20 years before his Presidency.
My opinion and mine alone and no one else.

But isn't that the American Way? Persecute any one different? Those from Africa, Poland, Ireland, and those of Jewish faith suffered at "our" hands. Why would this be any different?
I'm not saying it's right, I'm saying it happens in the red, white, and blue if you're "different".
