@HipKat : There are few empty buildings/businesses on Water Street. The problem is there are a good number of traditional 9-5 businesses inhabiting space down there that do not draw people. The draw is left to Running Central, two breweries, an arcade, a bar, and a couple of restaurants which is only going to attract so many people. It is one of my ***** (among many) about the museum. Why not some later hours? Not everyone can go 9-5.

@ChefKevin : We rarely go to the movies anymore, but wow you are right even the theatre is largely closed after 5pm during the week, cart.peoriariverfron tmuseum.org/performa ncecalendar.aspx . That would seem like an easy one to fix.

@mypeez : I emailed the museum years ago about that and was told "demand isn't there" Not sure how they could know that if they never tried any later hours. Even just one showing at 7pm would help. They are getting the new Avengers and are showing that later into the night, probably because it cost them an arm & a leg to get it.

@lanestar7 : When they were building it and announced their hours, I believe their "9-5" philosophy was one of the things The Peoria Chronicle chided them about. I don't know how they came up with the "no interest was there" mentality...did they send a bunch of questionnaires to their northside donors who rarely head south of War Drive?

@ChefKevin : Imagine if they HAD gotten the IMAX, would they have run more showings then? They are also the only theater in town serving beer and wine during movies which would make it a better date night option than any of the big theaters but it's not advertised at all. I feel like that entire building just barely does enough to get by and nothing more, falling back on their tax income to actually keep the place running. Which is EXACTLY why I voted no to the tax increase, make businesses earn their business, not give them handouts to stay open

@HipKat : Why in the heck are you even on this forum if you dislike the Peoria area so much!!?? I've lived in two states and I love this area and people here despite the issues. I've had family here in Peoria before the Civil War and working at CAT since the very beginning in Peoria.

@lanestar7 : I didn't vote for it because of all the lies, mistruths, and design. Originally, I was for the idea.

@pictureme1 : When the money was there for some, then its a great place to live but once the money left its a s_it hole. There is a video floating around where someone is talking up Peoria so much. But not so much today.

Moved to the area 40 years ago, raised a family, paid off a mortgage, put a kid thru Bradley, and still live in area. No I don't live in Peoria, but haven't for 35 of them years. It's not perfect, but it's home. Show me a City w over 100, 000 pop and generally will show you a city with issues.
