I will just just stick with CEFCU. I get all that except interest on the checking account. Mine would never make enough interest to cover that $5 service fee.

I was verbally given two options. Switch my account to interest paying checking for $5, in which I would come out 75 cents ahead this month at the current rate, or have no service fees but no interest. It's all a bunch of crap if you ask me.

But seriously, I have five accounts (four being my children's) plus our mortgage at Better Banks. If I were to move MY account I would just consolidate it with my brokerage account, but there's something to be said for having a local bank that you can physically walk into.

@kraziebill : Yes, their Advantage savings, the one that doesn't pay interest. Which is fine, other than I have to come in and fill out an application for a new account which seems unnecessary.

This is getting blown out to be bigger than it really is; it's just an annoyance. I went through something similar, but much much bigger, with PNC Business banking, so I got upset when my small local bank wanted to jerk me around with fees too.

My apologies. Your original post clearly says Better Banks, but my browsing went to Hometown Community Banks. Maybe I shouldn't reply before noon.

FYI Hometown only charges the fee on interest checking if your average daily balance is less than $1000. Maybe time to switch. lol

I think it's annoying when businesses advertise free features when nobody else charges for those features. Free eStatements - great!! I drove past a motel the other day that was advertising free air conditioning on their sign! 🤪
