I am supposed to feel proud that Trump will travel on the most luxurious plane in the air. As an American, I deserve to have him eat his McD's on beautiful leather and French designed cabinetry. I will be so happy to pay $6.00 per gallon for my gas tonight.

Nice looking gift and refurbished well. To build it would cost 10 times the amount. The funny part was that it was actually a gift.

And he gets to keep it after his term ends in 2029. He plans to park it at his Presidential library.
But if Obama's library just opened, and his term ended in 2017, then will Mr. Must Fly in Kingly Luxury continue to use the plane for personal travel after 2029 until his library is complete?
And will the Presidential seal on the plane be removed?
My opinion and mine alone and not my employer's.

@SuzyH : It was, but the plane itself, a Boeing 747-8, was built in Seattle. Basically the taxpayers are being fleeced for the rehab of his "new private jet". Replacement of the current Air Force One, a 747-2 was already due in two years. Unless that order was cancelled, you know he's making a move to keep the jet.

Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.) on Tuesday grounded Donald Trump's plans for the luxury jet that was gifted by Qatar and is now in use as Air Force One.

Trump unveiled the new presidential aircraft last week, a plane gifted by the Qatari government that has since undergone modifications. Trump has said he will not use the aircraft after leaving office and that it will eventually be donated to his future presidential library.

The MeidasTouch Network asked Raskin, the top Democrat on the House Judiciary Committee, if Trump gets to keep the jet after his presidency ends.

"No, he does not," Raskin bluntly replied.

Raskin then explained:

"You know why? Because the Constitution says he can't do it. Because the Constitution says that the president may not receive a present, an emolument, which means a payment, an office or title of any kind, whatever, from a king, a prince, or a foreign state without the consent of Congress. And Congress has not consented to him keeping a $400 million jet. So it's got to be turned over immediately to Congress for our disposition. And we can either send it back to the people in Qatar, or we can keep it and do something different with it. But it doesn't belong to the president."

The Constitution's foreign emoluments clause states: "No Title of Nobility shall be granted by the United States: And no Person holding any Office of Profit or Trust under them, shall, without the Consent of the Congress, accept of any present, Emolument, Office, or Title, of any kind whatever, from any King, Prince, or foreign State."

The 747 from the early 1970s went out of production in 2021, and was mostly sold as the cargo variant in the decade up to that point. The replacement is the slightly smaller 777 from 1995, which uses 70% as much fuel per passenger as the 747. The 747 is still popular in the middle east where gasoline can be cheaper than water.

Why are they using a discontinued airplane for the future Air Force One?

The order was not canceled,It was delayed a bit, So he got a gift to use in the meet the safety criteria, including the painting .for the Secret Service standards,. He wants to use it on an interim basis until the new one is finished in late 2028 . There is no doubt he will make an attempt to keep this interim one as his own plane as when the new one comes into service.
