Even though I could have considered myself a 'minority' (compared to rest of the work force there) when I was hired at PCCEO back in 1986, I always had the philosophy of looking past a person's color, and looking at them as a colleague, co-worker, all working for the same cause.
Many years ago, while working there, Michael Banks, then-Executive Director, and I went to Chicago to participate in (and videotape) a weekend seminar on Racial Reconciliation. It was about finding ways for blacks and whites to understand each other more, help find ways to work together instead of against each other as races.
At the end of the seminar, we were served bowls of chocolate and vanilla ice cream, with the instructions to take a little of each, and mix it together.
It was very inspiring to me, and I hope that reconciliation can continue in many ways. It starts with a simple dialogue,
