OMG, okay here we go. I see in color. Jehovah gave me eyes that can differentiate differences in the light spectrum. It would be foolish not to use them.
I clearly didn't yell "hey white guy, stop!" That would be stupid. "STOP! POLICE!" was the standard phrase. Usually the guy running was smart enough to figure out I was talking to him.
If I didn't catch the person, and was then asked by dispatch or fellow officers for a description, I would provide the suspect's race if I observed it. For instance "suspect is a white/black male, approx 6 feet in height wearing black pants and a red shirt. Last seen on foot headed north on University from McClure." Is that wrong? If I omit the race because "I shouldn't see color" should I omit clothing descriptions as well? Just say he was wearing pants and a shirt, and let the user decide?
A complete description, including race, helps narrow down the suspect. There is no need for officers to bother African Americans or women if I described the suspect as white male.
Why use "white" and "black?" Because that is EXACTLY what the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) computer uses, that is what it accepts, and that is the standard legal description according to the FBI.
If you think that makes me a racist, then you can think what you want. I think you want to see what you want to see. If you knew me, you'd know otherwise.
