Great news from Lacon
From the Lacon Park District;
"ANNOUNCEMENT!
It is with great excitement and pleasure to annouce, the Lacon Park District has reached an agreement with OZINGA Bros INC to purchase the old WEERS LAKE gravel mine. This will become a destination for Lacon & the surrounding areas for years to come! There are many plans that we have for this property. While this undertaking will take some years to fully complete, we are confident that we will be able to add many exciting options for outdoor recreation. Not all plans are final, and may be subject to changes due to unforseen obstacles, future plans include walking trails, beach access, fishing, primitive camp sites, boat docks, rv camp sites, and depending on the conditions that we may find with the "north lake" we hope to allow ice skating. We will be looking for community involvement in the coming months to make this dream a reality. Attached you may see the current Google earth view of the property, and a fun cartoon of what it could possibly be.
None of this could be possible without the amazing help of OZINGA Bros INC, and we want to thank them for their amazing part in making this a reality for our town.
Please note, until the sale has been finalized, this property remains under the control of OZINGA. Please respect their NO TRESSPASSING signs in place."

That is cool. I'm honestly surprised that Ozinga was the owner. Their active operation is up in Henry and Midwest Sand & Gravel (now Galena Gravel) boxes this in to the north, but so much the better.
