This is just plain nuts
 Well, if absurdity had a name, it would be this: Apollo Pepper. If you think the Carolina Reaper (1.6M Scoville Heat Units), Dragon's Breath (2.1M SHU), and Pepper X (2.6M SHU) are hot, they are lacking. Ed Currie, the creator of the Reaper and X, has cross bred these two and has ended up with something (the Apollo Pepper) which is toppling the 3,000,000 SHU mark. (For reference, a jalapeno is about 25,000 Scoville units.) It's not available yet: Currie waits until something may top his current record holder before releasing something new and hotter (like when the Dragon's Breath took the top spot from the Reaper, he released X). So, maybe something is in the works from another pepper grower that challenges X that he has this in his back pocket.
Good Lord.
I ate the bottom part (no seeds) of a ghost pepper and it wasn't the worst. If/when the Apollo is released, the ghost will fall out of the top 15 hottest peppers. I tried just a tiny bit of a Trinidad Scorpion (+/- 1.2M SHU, currently the 8th spiciest pepper) and thought I was going to die. I can't imagine anything 2.5 times hotter.
But, it would be fun to make 20 gallons of chili and using nothing else spicy, see how hot one of these Apollo peppers would make it. Emoticon

Let's hope there aren't any chefs with dyslexia that picks up the Apollo pepper instead of Aleppo Pepper!

@AverageSue :
Thinking about that, that is one pepper I don't think I've ever seen fresh is the Aleppo. Used the dried, crushed or powdered version quite frequently, but.... Hmmm...maybe I track down seeds and grow it next year.

I should have guessed Baker Creek/Rare Seeds. They have some very interesting and wild stuff. Last year I planted some of their pepper seeds with pretty good success. A friend and I roadtripped it there (5.5 hours one way) this spring and it is a pretty cool place.
