Video Title: Rockwell - Somebody's Watching Me (Official Music Video)
The map is close, but missing some. I wish there was a way to tell who owned the camera. They are not just for police use. I've seen some installed in HOAs and apartment complexes and businesses too.
The only one I have noticed so far is the one at IL8 and Koerner road. I had no idea what was until now. I am aware that many of the intersections have cameras on them. There is a way to see pictures, but I think they put a delay on it intentionally. Really this is just local police being able to access a small portion of data that the federal government has access to. They've been tracking cell phone locations and most likely the highway traffic cameras for years already. Sometimes the DEA will instruct local law enforcement to look for a reason to make a traffic stop for a particular vehicle. How does the DEA know?
@MadScientist : Unless there has been a policy change, the IDOT cameras do not record. This was a ruling from the AG's office early on to keep them from getting FOIA'd for video constantly. There simply is none. Now I guess a third party could try to record the live feed and resell the data, but the public facing portal to the camera network is pretty laggy. Now a service like Flock, working with law enforcement might have more direct access to the IDOT live stream, but I do not know if they've opened up the traffic camera feed to them? I have to think that Flock's own camera system feeding back into their own network is the easier route. I usually see these on their own poles with a small solar power feed. I'm guessing they are using cellular as their backhaul connection.

That's interesting information! So I was talking to someone about theft, and he was telling me about how some park district off road vehicles were stolen and driven north to Peoria Heights. He said the police followed them through the different intersections with the traffic cameras as they moved along. They must save data for a certain amount of time if that's true.

@MadScientist :
I remember that incident and it was actually a dispatcher at the 911 center that was watching them live on the IDOT cameras. The 911 center not only has access to the live cameras, but also has access to control the ones that move (PTZ). A side note, when the 911 center or anyone that has access to view them is doing so, that camera will stop updating the pics on the public viewer website.

I read in the paper that the social media tax passed. 50 cents per month for Illinois users on services that have more than 500,000 users in Illinois. It's almost like it's designed to fail. If Facebook charged $6 per year for Illinois users, can you imagine the backlash?
