Remembering My Uncle Ivan He was married to my dad's sister Hulda, living in Chester. Had a nice home, a son my age, a daughter a few years younger. Grew a big garden behind his house. Lived next door to Hulda's brother David and his family.
He has passed away, and I always remember when his funeral was, because I attended it with my dad.
It was on a Monday.
I went back to work the next day, but did some Internet research at home first. I just checked email, didn't have TV on, or looked at news.
On my way to work at PCCEO, I turned on radio expecting to hear music. Instead, DJs were talking about a jet that had hit the Pentagon. I didn't think much, thought it was an accident. Then on another station, I heard about a jet hitting one of the World Trade Towers. Now that was definitely unusual.
By the time I got to work, both towers were hit, I turned on the TV for others to watch in horror and disbelief as both towers fell. Then we heard about the 4th plane that passengers rose up and attacked the hijackers, causing a crash in Pennsylvania. A day that America and the world will never forget. Yes, my uncle's funeral was September 10, 2001, the day before 9/11. (PS, my Aunt Hulda is still with us, as well as her last surviving brother, my uncle Fritz, who turned 99 recently, still living on the same farm he and his 6 siblings grew up in.)
