Riverfront stepping up Amphitheater?
Nice to see something happening. Now just to deal with parking. Shame Cat won't let the parking deck be used.

Interesting ... who builds anything and doesn't know the upfront cost ... said no one ever except for the City of Peoria. [City Manager Patrick Urich said the money for any site work would come out of the city's capital fund - PJStar] ... many taxpayers would prefer that the city use capital funds to fix the potholes. [The contracts in place will protect the city, Hayes said, from any possible cost overruns on the construction. Peoria is not obligated to cover any cost overruns if the project exceeds $11 million outside of the infrastructure improvements at the site. - PJStar 5/26/26 - JJBullock] "Peoria is not obligated to cover any cost overruns..." cue laughter ... project from the not too distant past, redoing the Civic Center, the skybridge and the Hotel Pere Marquette. Taxpayers still paying for that boondoggle with zero return on about $60M plus the $7M never repaid to the deferred employee compensation fund. Yul Brynner vibes and the iconic phrase he spoke while acting as Pharaoh Rameses II ... "So let it be written. So let it be done." [1956 cinematic classic The Ten Commandments, directed by Cecil B. DeMille.] So, the City is not obligated to pay any cost overruns, however, the City may cover them anyway ... don't believe it for one minute.

I don't see the War Service Memorial in that photo. Is it behind the stage or did they remove it?
@AntiRanchDrssng :
Drawings I've seen indicates the War Memorial by the river will still be there. It's actually closer to the Riverplex.

@kraziebill :
I went down there. Where the proposed stage sits is where the memorial is. The Memorial starts where the sidewalk gets wide and the fence gets higher at the point jutting out towards the river. This is easier to see on TnT's photo. It then arcs to the Murray Baker Bridge.
Now I'm throwing a question out there. One of the excuse...er, I mean reasons the park district said that touring bands didn't want to use the Glen Oak Park Amphitheater is that there wasn't a private enclosed area for the band to hang out/relax/hide from rabid fans/imbibe in whatever/practice, etc. before/after shows. Does anyone see an enclosed area behind the stage here? do they hang out under the stage? Maybe they can dock a yacht there.

@AntiRanchDrssng :
If you look carefully at TnTs pic, even zoom in, there's a gate off the parking lot with a wide driving area going back to almost behind the stage. It looks big enough for a tour bus and/or a large van or bus to pull up and park.

I may stand corrected on the War Memorial at the Riverfront. Here's a screenshot. There's a line of trees along river from MBB towards where the Memorial stands. I've been down there a couple times for video shots. Now, looking at TnTs pic, that same line of trees ends where the back of the amphitheatre is. It doesn't look like the memorial would still fit there behind the amphitheatre, and would have to be relocated. Otherwise, not 100% sure what would happen to that Memorial Plaza.

After shooting a story this morning about the Riverfront Market moving to Northwoods Mall parking lot this Saturday (due to Steamboat Classic Race), I drove over to the War Memorial by Riverplex. It does extend out a bit from the river, so I'm thinking it will have to be moved somewhere. But at whose cost?
