Taste of Pekin

We're set up in the 400 block of Court Street, which evokes memories. Just down the street in the 300 block is where Continental Cablevision was located. I got my first job in this industry playing back movies on big VCRs at night to paying viewers (pre HBO and Cinemax). That was September, 1979.
Up the street in the 500 block, a professional photographer named Steve Huey expanded into video production and cable casting on Continental's local program channel. He brought me on board as a production assistant after Continental shut down the movie service in favor of Cinemax. One of my first shifts was during a Live cablecast of the Marigold Parade, actually sitting in sort of a control room making sure the camera signal and audio were looking good on air. That would have been September 1980.
Never thought I'd still be doing this work in 2026. But at age 20, you don't think that far ahead. I was 1 semester from graduating from ICC.Curious if others here ever had career plans at that young age?

At that age, I was wanting to become a CPA, and started at ICC for it, but was working in restaurants and was liking that a bit too much if ya know what I mean.

Back in the day, there were not a lot of choices for a female - nurse, teacher, secretary or flunky in some office. Always wanted to be a Federal Narcotics Agent. Ended up teaching for the first 10 years. I hated it. Guess that's why I enjoyed working in the drug treatment arena for quite a while, until funding decreased. Glad I retired and doing what I do now. Better than any paying job I ever had!
