I think this is another reason that so many states and municipalities are in trouble financially. They rarely get a return on our investment.

Amazon paid ZERO in federal corporate taxes. This is a company that does not need additional tax breaks.

Sure would be nice if someone could distill down how exactly Amazon was able to do that... and work to make a tax code change to mitigate or eliminate the deductions that enabled them to have zero liability. Clearly the most recent changes made no difference as they paid ZERO the year before as well.

The 3 billion in tax cuts were to take place over several years.

It would have provided 20+ billion in tax revenue over the same number of years. Way to go NYC.

If people want minimum wage at $15/hour, jobs locally have to increase greatly before that can happen. Especially in the higher paying jobs.

If Amazon pulls out, other companies aren't going to be attracted either. Does "business leaving Illinois" ring a bell???

If Bezos doesn't like AOC, what he did was brilliant. The domino effect on other large businesses seeking to locate in NYC will be big. The amount of tax revenue lost will be immense.

It was a brilliant move by Bezos.

Low information once again bamboozled the masses. What Bezos did was brilliant if he wants to take down AOC.

Amazon was going to invest 5 billion. But AOC didn't tell everyone that part. Seems to be a pattern of hers.

News that Amazon would be inhabiting an already growing section of Queens drew skepticism or outright opposition from several federal, state and local officials representing the borough.

That includes Congresswoman-elect Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who questioned whether the state should be providing incentives to such a wealthy company.

Amazon is one of the wealthiest companies in the world, having hit a valuation of $1 trillion in September.

"The idea that (Amazon) will receive hundreds of millions of dollars in tax breaks at a time when our subway is crumbling and our communities need MORE investment, not less, is extremely concerning to residents here," Ocasio-Cortez, a Democrat, wrote on Twitter.

@EyeintheSky : The subways will keep crumbling for years to come since she just ran off a 21 billion dollar tax profit. NYC was only in it to invest 1.7 billion over a span of years.

She just ran off the most lucrative source to fix her subway problems.

If you run big business + their employees out of state, you lose potential tax revenue, which is exactly what Illinois is doing.

She could have had all her social problems fixed with just a portion of the taxes Amazon would have created. What an idiot she is. She set back the very people she was trying to help.

Imagine if Amazon was set to go, to bring this headquarters to Peoria. After all, CAT did at one time.

Imagine if a politician in Illinois said, "We can't give large tax breaks to big business when Peoria lays crumbling around us."

What would people in central Illinois say?

@AllHailTheQuisp :

There was a phone call in a public place that Schumer was having and he was stark raving hysterical FURIOUS. People who heard it think he must have been talking to AOC.
In her district,80% of her constituents wanted Amazon,
Guaranteed she will have a democratic challenger in tbe democratic primary next year and she will lose it.

There is an exceedingly slim, but still possible, chance the decision can be reversed. However, it will have to happen in a matter of weeks and not months. If that happens it will be with the intense involvement of Schumer. He is from Brooklyn and has been through some of this with the redevelopment of downtown Brooklyn, the Barclay Center and a Marriott Hotel and all of them thriving. All of which AOC is clueless about.

Now AOC will be labeled as anti-jobs. But those in Peoria saw what happened when millions of dollars were given to a developer for a hotel project downtown.

@DennisinMH : How is a downtown developer the same as a large business choosing to locate in Peoria?
