There is also the money that employees spend in the local economy which brings in sales tax. Money spent in restaurants, money to suppliers and contractors to Amazon that brings in sales tax etc.

@billybob : I thought AOC's constituency would already know this. I guess it was too big of an assumption.

If they want us to give them $3 billion in tax breaks, I'd oppose it.

@cjsummers : Alright then.

@AllHailTheQuisp :

A lot of those people that were against it were not her constituents. They are from surrounding congressional districts. That's what is so idiotic.

no strings attached, I

@cjsummers : No large business works that way. They need tax incentives. That's why they're all leaving Illinois.

No, they don't need it.

@cjsummers : Don't expect any large business to move to Peoria then. It's how large business runs.

And that's why cities have the fiscal problems they do.

IKEA was given just under 2 million in tax incentives to locate in Fishers, Indiana. A small town where I used to live.

The amount of money and development it has brought to that area is exponential, compared to the tax incentives.

Amazon is one of the largest companies in the world. Wherever it settles, its stock isn't going down soon.

2 million dollars. For Ikea. It would be amazing if Ikea came to Peoria. But it wouldn't happen without tax breaks.

Angie's List was given 8.5 million to locate in Indianapolis.

No large business will come to a city without an incentive. Yet look how little it took to land IKEA and Angie's List in their locations.

Bezos could have gotten much bigger tax breaks, as I listed before. It's impressive that they were willing to take only 3 billion when Newark was going to give them 7 billion.

@AllHailTheQuisp :

Possible Amazon ends up in Newark. Its right across the river from NYC. The downtown area is undergoing massive renewal and transportation into NYC is excellent. So reverse commuting is a distinct possibility. However, AOCs constituents would have to travel a bit longer. Also, Newark Airport is a few minutes from downtown with very frequent train service right to the airport. It would also be a bit closer to Crystal City, VA. for them.

@billybob : That would be nice. I believe they're going to sink it all into Virginia. I'm sincerely happy for the people of Virginia.

@AllHailTheQuisp :

Indeed. There is also some more space there for them to take too as soon as the currrnt tenants leave this summer.
Also, Bezos house in DC is undergoing massive renovation and expansion. So it's all close home for Bezos.

And why didn't AOC tell people about the 5 billion of development Amazon had committed to do in their NYC location? 5 billion!
